The northern Colorado Rockies have long been recognized for their scenic beauty and majestic mountain peaks as well as many recreational opportunities. Lost in the Rocky Mountains, Red Feather Lakes is far from the noise and stress of the city. This group of 14 lakes is near the Colorado/Wyoming border and six of the lakes are open to the public for trout fishing and boating.
Used historically as hunting grounds by plains Indian tribes such as the Sioux and Arapahoe, the area has also figured prominently in the lives of innumerable trappers, miners, ranchers, loggers and other rugged pioneers. Surrounded by the Roosevelt National Forest, today recreation is king and enjoyed during every season by outdoor enthusiasts. Camping, fishing, hiking, biking, off-roading, hunting and horseback riding are all popular recreational activities. This area is a photographers dream with an abundance wildflowers and wildlife. Look for elk, antelope, moose, mule deer, bears, quail, grouse, mountain lions, bighorn sheep and wild turkey.
