Beach at San José del Cabo
|
The Los Cabos area has been inundated with high priced hotels and condos, and almost all of the beach campgrounds have disappeared. In San José del Cabo, I found the only remaining beach campground in the Los Cabos area, and was shocked to find that it cost US $26 dollars per night! My previous campsites had only cost 20-50 pesos (US $2-$5) per night!
The Mexican man running the campground agreed with me that this was an absurdly high fee for a campground, and he had tried to convince the Canadian owner to lower his prices, but the owner wouldn't budge a peso. It made me happy to see a bit of real world capitalism in Mexico. I smiled to myself; if I owned the only remaining beach campground in the Los Cabos area, I would be charging at least $26 per night. I happily paid the fee. It was a magnificent spot with thundering waves and spectacular sunrises, and the Canadians at the campsite were very friendly. Since I now had a big wad of pesos, I splurged and stayed a second night.
