I arrive in Canyonlands National Park Utah around 6 pm just a couple of hours before the sun will set. I leave the pavement and begin my descent from the high "Island in the Sky" plateau at about 5,800 ft elevation down the steep, twisting Shafer Trail Road and descend about a 1,000 feet before meeting up with the White Rim Road. It is a grand entrance to a panoramic scene that is absolutely stunning.
