About the time I'm thinking about how easy the road is I come to the turnoff for The Lathrop Canyon Trail. This trail was originally used by cattle ranchers and was later used by uranium miners to access the Colorado River. On the topographical map the road looks like it has a lot of switchbacks, but the elevation drop is only about 400 feet over a four mile stretch so I didn't expect it to be too difficult. The first section of switchbacks looked intimidating, and indeed it was intimidating! Now I'm in 4wd drive land! I come across a dirt bike rider and stop to chat. He seems both shocked and intrigued to see a camper on this trail. |
