The road today is definitely easier than yesterday and there are many sections where I shift into 2wd. One last climb at Potato bottom and another steep drop to near river level at Hardscrabble Hill and I'm on the homestretch. I'm less than two miles from the end of the 4wd road when I arrive at a very narrow section of road. To my left I have an immediate 100-foot drop to the Green River, and to my right I have a vertical rock cliff. As I'm driving along, it occurs to me that the rock outcroppings look like they are very close to my camper. About the same time that my brain began to digest this thought, I hear a loud bang and red rocks crumble onto the hood off my truck. It is too narrow to stop and check out the damage, so I drive on until I find a wide spot in the road. Sure enough, I had clipped a rock outcropping with my camper. One marker light and the top right corner of my camper sustained some damage, but it didn't look too serious. Shortly after this, I make it to Mineral Bottom Road and the end of my 4wd travels. |
