This was bad news since it would easily be a several hundred-mile drive to get back to the Tetons if I had to leave Yellowstone via a northern exit. I asked if I could make one more trip down the road to photograph wildlife before leaving, and he agreed. I put the truck in four-wheel drive and headed south. The snowfall was heavy and the road was completely covered, but it was never more than about six inches deep. I really wasn't worried; if I got snowed in I would just set up camp and wait until the weather cleared. I had plenty of food, fuel and water and could ride the storm out. As it was, I kept driving and easily made it back out of Yellowstone and back to the Tetons. |
