Camper Design Specs
This is the original list of requirements I gave to David at Safari Vehicles:

Objectives:

  1. Minimize weight
  2. Camper completely insulated and waterproof!
  3. Self sufficient with water and power for several days
  4. Interior shower
  5. Hot water for sink and shower
  6. NO propane
  7. High efficiency electrical components
  8. Eliminate pop-top design
Overall size:
  1. Width - 82 inches, same as my previous camper
  2. Height - interior height, 68 inches floor to ceiling, 18 inches over cab sleeping
  3. Length - 140 inches overall, 80 inches at the floor
  4. Honeycomb laminate construction (1 ½ inch thick, R-10 insulation)
  5. Paint white to match truck
Major Features:
  1. Pass-through between cab and camper
  2. Aisle down center of camper
  3. Rear entrance door with window and screen door
  4. One large window on each side, two small front windows and two small rear windows (6 total) with shades and screens
  5. Window in rear door (used with inside mirror to see to the rear)
  6. "booth seating"-facing seats with table in middle to seat 2 adults
  7. Ceiling fan
  8. Roof hatch/skylight for emergency exit and roof access
  9. Counter height 34 inches
  10. Storage cabinets with vibration proof latches
Water and Plumbing System:
  1. 40 gallon fresh water (inside camper to help prevent freezing) with outside locking fill and fill level gauge
  2. 1.5 gallon super-insulated electric hot water
  3. Gray water tank mounted under truck (no need to insulate)
  4. Water filter for drinking water
  5. Electric water pump for sink and shower
  6. Inside shower with curtain
  7. Inside chemical cartridge toilet
Electrical:
  1. Solar panel battery recharging
  2. Low current draw interior lighting
  3. Reading lights above bed
  4. 12 volt outlets for PC, phone etc.
  5. AC inverter
  6. Additional (or heavy duty) alternator
  7. Voltmeters to monitor battery charge and drain
Heating:
  1. Use thermostatically controlled diesel heater to heat interior
Cooking:
  1. Diesel cook stove vented to right rear (same location as vehicle exhaust)
Refrigerator:
  1. Electric, compressor type high efficiency refrigerator
Misc:
  1. Exterior area lights
  2. Rear 6 foot wide awning
  3. Locking fuel filler for both main and auxiliary diesel fuel tanks
  4. Dust deflector for rear window
