Overview
I use my on-board air system for airing up my tires and air springs, to provide air for the air lockers, and blowing dirt off of things. My system has worked very well and I'm happy with its performance. If you want to run air tools, the 1 CFM at 100 psi 12 volt pump really doesn't have enough output, so you should probably consider a mechanical pump instead.

Air Compressor
The Thomas is the only 12 volt compressor I found that could compress one cubic foot per minute at 100 psi and is rated for continuous duty. The Quick Air and ARB pumps have a much smaller capacity and are not rated for continuous duty. This is the same pump that's used on the Hummer. It's heavy, expensive and draws 28 amps, but it gets the job done. This is the only 12 volt compressor that I've found that I would even consider for serious use. Otherwise, check out mechanical pumps; OnBoardAir.com is a good resource. You can buy the Thomas pump and most everything you need for an air system from Advanced Air Products or Grainger but Grainger only sells to businesses.

Air Tank
The tank works well for an on board air system and has several pipe plug outlets. The capacity is rather small, but works well for airing up tires. It doesn't have enough capacity for any but the smallest air tools.

Putting it all together
You'll need air hoses, fittings, a manifold, pressure regulator, water separator and many other pieces to put it all together. I didn't really know much about how to plumb it all together, so I went to Advanced Air Products in Denver, Colorado for help, and they did great job explaining to me what I needed and selling me all of the parts.

My pump is mounted to the truck frame under the passenger side of the quad cab, and the air tank is mounted to the frame under the passenger seat. I have air outlets on both the front and rear bumpers.
